Police discovered a Bundoora man was dealing drugs when they went to arrest him over thefts and found methamphetamine and ecstasy in his bed.

Investigators then found evidence Nicholas Holland and his partner had been mixing methamphetamine on a subsequent raid of the Grosvenor Court home, Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court has heard.

Holland pleaded guilty to a series of crimes before the court on Tuesday, August 4, including car thefts, shop thefts and petrol drive-offs dating back to September 2018.

The court heard police forced their way into Holland’s home about 4.30am on May 14 after he and his partner refused to open the door.

There to arrest Holland on a warrant, officers found the pair in their bedroom and smelt cannabis.

Leading Senior Constable Ken Marsh said officers then found methamphetamine, ecstasy pills and an ice pipe under the doona on the bed, and methamphetamine on a set of scales on a bedside table.

Cannabis and ecstasy was also found in a pouch on the bed, with the amounts of the drugs found totalling 6.1g of methamphetamine, 28.2g of cannabis and 1.5g of ecstasy.

After Holland was granted bail police raided the home again to search for drugs about 9.40am on July 15.

The court heard they found glassware used to purify methamphetamine, mixing bowls, a drug leger, scales, straws, deal bags, 28g of dried cannabis and cannabis butter and 1g of methamphetamine.

The court heard the father was also responsible for multiple car thefts and had been involved in a burglary at a Rockbank property in June 2019, in which a trailer, TV and other items were stolen.

He also stole almost $1000 groceries from Woolworths in two shops and was caught stealing from the mailroom and loading dock of a Docklands apartment building in September 2018.

His lawyer, Sarah Condon, said Holland had suffered drug addiction since he was 15 years old.

She said custody had been onerous on him, with him having been assaulted in jail in the 24 hours before his hearing, and asked for him to be sentenced to the 60 days he had already served.

Ms Condon said Holland wanted to return to Queensland to be with his supportive parents, and suggested he be released on bail to be sentenced in six weeks when his return to Queensland could be more likely, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Magistrate Helen Murphy agreed, bailing Holland with the condition he seek medical help for his mental health and drug counselling within seven days.
