A large stash of drugs, including five times the trafficable amount of methamphetamine, has allegedly been uncovered at a Mernda home, kept in a bedroom guarded by a passcode.

Police raided the share house early on Wednesday, July 22, before a resident allegedly admitted to selling methamphetamine, GHB and cannabis “to make ends meet”, Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court has heard.

Nicholas Gentile fronted the court on Thursday, July 23, charged with drug trafficking while on a community corrections order for trafficking methamphetamine.

The court heard police allegedly found more than 15g of methamphetamine, two bags of cannabis, cocaine, $1315 cash and three tick books in his bedroom, as well as a credit card in another person’s name.

Leading Senior Constable Lee-anne Meade said CCTV was also found in the bedroom, which was guarded by an electronic lock, as was the bedroom’s ensuite.

Police also allegedly found a bottle of GHB in the hall cupboard next to Gentile’s bedroom.

The court heard Gentile hadn’t worked in two to three years and was a daily user of methamphetamine, cannabis and GHB.

He allegedly told police payments from the government weren’t enough to “get through the next day”, so he was trafficking the drugs “to make ends meet”.

Gentile applied for bail without a lawyer, telling the court he would live with his mum in St Helena if he was released from custody.

He said he should be granted bail because he was trying to turn his life around and get his children back in his life, and needed to care for his unwell mum.

But Magistrate Meagan Keogh said he hadn’t proven exceptional circumstances as to why he should be released, denying him bail.
