A woman has been charged following a police chase through Melbournes northwestern suburbs last night.

Officers were called to an address in Cairnlea Drive, Cairnlea, just after 7pm to reports of a woman asleep inside a car.

Registration checks on the black Ford Fiesta revealed it had been stolen from the Highpoint shopping centre car park on March 6.

Police tried to intercept the vehicle but it allegedly sped off.

The Air Wing were called in to help track the car, which allegedly continued to speed through several suburbs.

It is also alleged the car swerved on to the footpath at times to manoeuvre around traffic.

The Fiesta was eventually tracked to an address in Marsden Crescent, St Albans, where a 51-year-old Moonee Ponds woman was arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered further stolen property including two sets of stolen number plates.

The Moonee Ponds woman has been charged with 13 offences, including theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop upon police direction and reckless conduct endangering life.

She was remanded to appear before Sunshine Magistrates’ Court today.
