Bunnings has become the latest retail giant to be hit with coronavirus in Melbourne after an employee at its Mill Park outlet tested positive.

A team member, who last worked at the hardware giant on August 5, returned the positive test last week.

Debbie Poole, Bunnings chief operating officer, said importantly the team member had been wearing a face mask.

“The store has undergone five deep cleans using disinfectants since the team member last worked in addition to the routine cleaning that occurs each day,” Ms Poole said.

“And, as a precaution an additional deep clean was completed on Saturday.”

Ms Poole said Bunnings had incredibly comprehensive protocols for hygiene and cleaning during COVID-19 across the whole store network which had been developed in conjunction with advice from health authorities

“Over the past few months, we’ve been taking extra steps in store to keep our team and customers safe including implementing extensive physical distancing measures and deep cleaning all stores daily as well as undertaking regular cleans throughout the day,” she said.

It comes after more than 50 staff members across Woolworths and Coles stores across Melbourne tested positive for COVID-19.
