AN ENIGMA for many around the world, unknown details of the life of Michael Hutchence will be revealed in a new book coming in October.
The book, titled Michael: My brother: lost boy of INXS, was co-written by older sister Tina and music writer Jen Jewel Brown and promises to show Hutchence in an all new light.
Ms Hutchence was 12 years old when her brother was born and shares stories about him as a baby dancing to Bob Rogers’ top 40 hits.

Another recalls his DJ abilities when he would “spin the platters” for his sister’s go-go dance group.
It’s also filled with perspectives and stories from other members of Hutchence’s life, including Helena Christensen, Paula Yates, and childhood friends.
The story is told in Ms Hutchence’s voice and marries her intimate and personal view with Ms Brown’s experience of the hysteria and fandom in Australia.
“It’s a focus on Michael and his life and times and his music,” Ms Brown said.
“It’s quite amazing. It shows you a completely different side to this man who many people probably see as an arrogant rock star.”
The title is a reference to the lost boys of Peter Pan, who had escaped parental control but always found a home in literature.
Ms Brown said the fairytale “resonated” in Michael Hutchence’s life, and mentioned examples such as naming a stray cat Tinkerbell and his own daughter Tiger Lily.
Ms Brown, who first interviewed Hutchence in the early days of INXS in 1981, said she became an “instant fan.”
The pair first partnered when Ms Hutchence asked Ms Brown to update Just a Man: The Real Michael Hutchence but quickly realised they had enough for a new book.
Ms Brown described her as a “wonderful writer.”
“I was the electric lead that plugged Tina into the wall and let her speak in her own voice,” she said.
Despite their friendship and hours on the phone discussing the book the pair have never met.
They will when Ms Hutchence lands in Australia to crash on Jen Jewel Brown’s Northcote couch.
The book will be launched at St Kilda Writers Week on October 4.
