A serial thief with a hunger for fast food has admitted to stealing cars and robbing a number of businesses by deception, including online food delivery company Deliveroo.
John Kaiser swindled more than $500 out of Deliveroo, as well as $500 out of Punthill Apartment Hotel in Ivanhoe and $300 out of Booking.com during a two-week crime spree, Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court has heard.
The 25-year-old fronted the court on Wednesday, April 29, having been behind bars since February 29.
The court heard the Jacana man went on a crime bender from January 15 to 31 accompanied by a woman.
He stole a black Mercedes from an Eltham property on January 26, before he drove it to Caltex Kingsbury and stole $73.99 worth of petrol.
He then robbed Reservoir’s Win Win Chinese restaurant of $33 by deception and Deliveroo of $133.20.
That evening he stayed at Ivanhoe’s Punthill Apartment Hotel, paying for a $533.91 bill with a stolen credit card.
During his stay he was seen trying to open car doors in the underground carpark, managing to get inside at least one.
Two days later, on January 28, he robbed Deliveroo of $393 by deception, Booking.com of $300, Punthill Apartment Hotel of $500 and Reservoir milk bar Xiaoxiao of $66.40.
He also stole $44.43 from BP Heidelberg West and $73 from Gilbert Motors Reservoir.
The court heard the following day when he was paying to stay at room at a Parkside Inn Motel Bundoora, Kaiser took hold of the EFTPOS machine and tried to have his $110 payment refunded to his card.

His lawyer told the court he had already served 101 days for his crimes, 62 since he was arrested in February, and 41 after he was arrested in August and waiting to be bailed.
Kaiser pleaded guilty to all the charges, with the court hearing the father-of-two was indigenous and had a mild intellectual disability.
His lawyer said he struggled with ice use and had been in prison twice before.
Kaiser’s mother told the court he could live under her supervision in regional Victoria and receive drug treatment from the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Cooperative.
Magistrate Helen Murphy bailed Kaiser to live with her, imposing a curfew and instructing that if he did not receive help from the service he would be facing a community corrections order when she next assessed his case on June 23.
