A 20-year-old who’s never had a driver’s licence has pleaded guilty to stealing nine cars, number plates and a staggering 18 petrol drive-offs.

Timothy Georgiadis said he’d always wanted a licence when he fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 1, having been locked up for 93 days.

The court heard CCTV footage showed the Epping man regularly turning up at service stations in stolen cars, filling them with petrol and driving away without paying between December 4, 2019 and January 26, 2020.

Georgiadis has pleaded guilty to repeatedly stealing from Coles Express stores.

In that time, he stole more than $1000 worth of petrol from Coles Express, BP and Epping service stations across Melbourne’s north.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing cars from properties across Melbourne, including a Range Rover from Essendon, a BMW from Doreen and Kias from Carlton and North Melbourne.

Many of the cars were seen on CCTV with stolen number plates.

Georgiadis, who was only 19 at the time of the crimes, also admitted to breaking into and stealing from several cars, taking a credit card from a Ford at an Epping address on January 19 and using it repeatedly.

When police raided his Epping home on January 29 to arrest him, they found methamphetamine and items, including a passport, stolen from Bayswater.

Georgiadis also faced charges from before he last faced court in October, when he served 17 days in jail and was placed on a community corrections order for other crimes.

Leading Senior Constable D Steele said Georgiadis was seen driving 29km/h above the speed limit in Roxburgh Park in May, before he stole petrol from Coles Express Wantirna South in a Kia stolen from Ashwood in September.

He also stole a credit card from a car and used it in Oakleigh and Mt Waverley in September.

His lawyer, Emily Metcalfe, told the court Georgiadis was an ice user who had faced significant trauma in his childhood.

Noting he had spent three months in adult prison, she pushed for him to be released from custody on youth justice supervised bail to help him get back on track.

Magistrate Helen Murphy said Georgiadis had “a lot of significant matters” before the court for his age, but agreed, ordering he live with his father in Roxburgh Park on a strict curfew.

She said rehabilitation was still the court’s primary focus for him, despite the chances he had already been given.

Ms Murphy will reassess his case and sentencing on June 23.

But Georgiadis won’t be able to apply for a learner’s permit for some months.
