A killer driver who was high on ice when he claimed the life of a teenage girl after he crashed into the car carrying her and her parents has pleaded guilty to his horrific offending.

Gulet Mohammed Ahmed, of Essendon, appeared in the County Court on Wednesday via a prison link for an arraignment hearing over the deadly incident in Coburg on March 11, 2023.

Ahmed was also four times the legal blood alcohol limit when he slammed into an Alfa Romeo on Lygon St, killing a 16-year-old Katherine Osborne and injuring her parents.

Katherine, who studied at Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar was travelling with her family on Lygon St when Ahmed hit them in his Volkswagen.

Katherine died in the hospital four days after the crash.

The court heard the charges against Ahmed and the court associate asked Ahmed if he wished to plead guilty or not guilty.

“Gulet Mohammed Ahmed at Carlton in Victoria on the 11th day of March 2023 by culpable driving of a motor vehicle caused death of Katherine Antonio Osborne … by driving recklessly … whilst under the influence of alcohol..(.and) whilst under the influence of a drug of dependence namely methylamphetamine to such extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the motor vehicle,” the court heard.

To which Ahmed said: “Guilty”.

Ahmed then pleaded guilty to three charges of recklessly driving a motor vehicle at a speed and manner dangerous to public while under the influence of alcohol and meth that place or may have placed Katherine’s parents and another member of the public, Travis Oliver, in danger of serious injury.

Ahmed also admitted to possessing cannabis and meth.

“Guilty,” he said in response to the six charges.

Judicial Registrar Rosalind Avis remanded Ahmed in custody.

He will be back to court in September for a plea hearing.
