Giorgio Drosinos caught in Reservoir with fake cash, drugs, knives

A drugged-up father arrested driving in Melbourne’s north three times in just eight days was hoarding fake cash and a range of weapons, with the former scaffolder’s addiction becoming so severe he’d rather live in his car than with family.

A drug-addicted driver who was arrested by police three times in eight days was found to be armed with fake cash and a range of weapons.

Police were called after Giorgio Drosinos was seen erratically swerving all over the road in Bundoora midmorning.

After being pulled over, he did a runner and was caught several streets away when a member of the public intervened.

The 28-year-old fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 30, pleading guilty to charges from several incidents.

A large kitchen knife and someone else’s bank card and licence were found in Drosinos’ car after police stopped him driving erratically in Bundoora just before 11am on September 6.

Less than a week earlier, on August 31, police had found him asleep in the driver’s seat of a running car in Reservoir with ecstasy tablets on him just before noon.

He had only been pulled over by police in Reservoir less than two days before that.

At the time police noted Drosinos appeared substance-affected behind the wheel and could see syringes in the car.

A search of him and the Toyota then uncovered three fake $100 notes, two knives, a razor blade, letter opener, ice pipe, ecstasy pills and two stolen phones.

Drosinos also faced charges for using a bank card that was stolen from a car in July and for breaching a community corrections order.

Lawyer Scott Thomas said his client was a father and former scaffolder who had fallen into drug use and criminal offending after his previous relationship broke down in 2018.

The court heard Drosinos had been choosing to associate with other drug users and live in his car rather than with his family.

Magistrate Jennifer Tregent said he clearly needed help.

“His life is spiralling out of control,” she said.

Ms Tregent sentenced him to the 25 days’ jail he’d already served, fined him $600 and released him onto a 12-month community corrections order.
