Erdwarn Mamudoski: Epping concreter turns into ice-fuelled thief

An Epping dad who once ran a large concreting company was caught stealing a ute while his friend barricaded its owner in their home. And when police went to his property, they found he’d been a busy boy.

An experienced vehicle thief who was arrested with up to 50 different car keys was caught on camera stealing a ute while his friend barricaded its owner inside their home.

Erdwarn Mamudoski, 31, fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 24, pleading guilty to a range of charges.

The ice addict was caught on CCTV using a drill to steal a ute from an Aberfeldie driveway about 6.43am on April 11 as another man wedged the front door of the owner’s house with a plank of wood.

Mamudoski failed to start the ute, then pushed it down the driveway and used his car to push it down the street.

Three days later he stole a trailer that was attached to a car in Moonee Ponds and took it to Aberfeldie, where he loaded the stolen ute onto it.

But Mamudoski didn’t secure the ute properly, and it fell off the trailer in the middle of an intersection as he tried to relocate it.

He abandoned the ute and at 8.41am was seen driving at an estimated 180km/h on the Western Ring Road.

The thief pulled over after police put on their lights and sirens, but then sped away when the officers went to approach him.

At the time Mamudoski was on bail for several charges, including after he was caught driving and modifying his number plates days earlier, despite having lost his licence for four years.

He was taken into custody on July 7 after police searched his Crane Ave, Epping home and found up to 50 sets of car keys, a range of fake and stolen number plates, a stolen laptop and iPad and bags of methamphetamine in his garage.

The court heard Mamudoski refused to let police look at his phone and breached a community corrections order with his crimes.

Lawyer Scott Thomas conceded his client, who had been married for 15 years and was a father of two, had a long list of relevant prior convictions, including “every variety of dishonesty offending”.

He said Mamudoski ran a successful concreting business which serviced major commercial contracts until 2016 when he had to dissolve it because of his ice addiction.

Magistrate Michael McNamara sentenced Mamudoski to nine months’ jail, noting 79 days had already been served, followed by an 18-month community corrections order.
