A self-employed IT director and former junior footy coach is facing “very serious matters” after he was charged with a range of offences including trafficking meth.

Mark Wortley, 56, appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with stalking, trafficking and possessing meth, possessing stolen goods and stealing a motor vehicle.

The court heard that Mr Wortley was allegedly in possession of four stolen bank cards in the name of another man.

He was allegedly nabbed in possession of meth in Montmorency, while he was also charged with shop theft, the court heard.

Mr Wortley was represented by a lawyer after multiple adjournments throughout the week due to his lack of legal representation.

Magistrate John Bentley told his lawyer that Mr Wortley “had his head in the sand and had not taken this seriously at all”, describing the charges as “very serious matters”.

Earlier in the week, Mr Wortley told the court he did not have a lawyer who could be present in court, to which Mr Bentley responded, “who’ve you booked, Saul Goodman?”

Mr Wortley has been the executive director of Visioneering IT since 2000 and used to coach a junior footy team.

Mr Wortley, who the court heard was now living in South Morang, will next appear in court on February 28.
