Blaise Armour, nephew of Jason Moran, sentenced for drugs and guns charges

Jason Moran’s nephew was a law-abiding citizen working as an accountant. But during the pandemic his life quickly spiralled out of control as he moved back in with his mother.

The nephew of slain underworld figure Jason Moran was nabbed with guns and drug gear after moving in with his mum, whom he shares a “very complex relationship”.

Blaise Armour, 32, was sentenced at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for a raft of drug and gun related offences.

Armour was nabbed with possession of firearms, including a pump-action shotgun and two functioning handguns, which the court heard were found under his bed.

Armour also pleaded guilty to trafficking meth and cannabis which were dealt out of the mother and son’s Coburg North home.

The court heard that Armour experienced a “very complex relationship” with his mother, Suzanne Kane, whom he moved in with after his employment was reduced at the back-end of the Covid lockdowns.

Armour was employed as an accountant but saw his employment reduced from full-time, to part-time to casual work before his employment was terminated, the court heard.

Armour had an “extremely difficult childhood” that was full of “dysfunction, violence and neglect”.

It was revealed Armour was present for numerous “attacks on his home” as a child.

The court heard Armour was remorseful for his offending and made full admissions to police.

Prosecutor Debra Coombs opposed a combination sentence which Armour’s lawyer, Lauren Bull, proposed.

Ms Bull told the court his offending was as a result of his PTSD, with

Magistrate Rohan Lawrence agreeing that Armour’s childhood “was an extraordinary one”.

Mr Lawrence said Armour did the best he could to remove himself from his childhood.

“Were it not for the use of drugs and the passing of your grandmother, you may well have not ended up in this situation,” Mr Lawrence said.

He had no prior drug trafficking or firearms offences, the court heard.

Armour, who appeared via video link from Marngoneet prison, has spent 320 days in pre-sentenced detention.

He was sentenced to a year behind bars and will serve an 18 month community corrections order.

He will be out of custody in roughly 40 days, Mr Lawrence said.
