A car repair shop in Melbourne’s north was the target of a ram raid and attempted arson after unknown offenders gained access and tried to torch the garage.

Emergency services were called to an Epping workshop just before 5am Tuesday where crews located a small fire inside the shop.

Police believe unknown offenders drove a vehicle into a car workshop and poured what is believed to be accelerant inside before they fled in the vehicle.

No one inside at the time.

It took one FRV crew under 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The incident was then handed over to police and their investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV/dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
