Police have renewed calls for information following a home invasion in Reservoir in December last year.

An 80-year-old woman was shot at and assaulted by two “cowardly” thugs who pulled family photographs off walls during a home invasion in Reservoir.

Armed Crime Squad detectives have launched a renewed appeal for information after two men smashed their way into the Gertz Ave home about 2.30am on December 7 last year.

The pair – armed with what appeared to be batons – demanded cash and mobile phones from two women aged 80 and 55, and a 21-year-old man, who were home at the time of the aggravated burglary.

They then went through the house, searching through rooms and pulling family photographs off the walls.

The 55-year-old woman was also physically assaulted by one of the men who left when they were unable to find any money.

The family attempted to lock the house behind them but the thugs decided to come back and pushed open the door, knocking the 80-year-old woman over.

She suffered head and hand injuries during the fall.

The men pulled more photographs off the wall before leaving again without any money.

Police said at some stage during the break in one of the men fired a shot from a gun in the house.

The bullet damaged property but no one was hurt.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said people deserved to feel safe in their own homes and police were keen to give the family some answers.

“It’s always concerning when there is an incident involving firearms, however, for someone to assault an 80-year-old woman is pretty cowardly,” he said.

“I think that is particularly low and we are lucky that her injuries weren’t more serious.”

Insp Thomas said police believed the incident was targeted.

“We believe there are definitely people out there who know who is responsible and we’re urging those people to come forward,” he said.

Both men were wearing dark clothing with coverings over their faces.

A dark coloured sedan was seen driving in the street shortly before and after the break in.

Insp Thomas said police would also like to speak to anyone who can identify the car or who might know the owner or current whereabouts of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
