Burglars steal three 50-year-old classic Fords from Whittlesea shed

At least 10 vehicles, including a bobcat, caravan and forklift, have been moved so thieves could steal three expensive 50-year-old Fords from a classic car garage in Melbourne’s outer north — on the same day they were sold at auction.

Thieves have stolen three 50-year-old Fords from a classic car garage in Whittlesea in an extraordinary operation just hours after they had been sold at auction.

The burglary, believed to be targeted, occurred at a rural property on Clarks Rd between 5.30pm on Sunday and 8.30am on Monday.

The burglars found the shed storing the classic cars and turned the power off before cutting a hole in the back and climbing through.

They then moved at least 10 other vehicles out of the way, including a Bobcat, caravan, forklift, three Vespas, a quad bike and cars, to get to the classic Fords.

The thieves then opened the front roller door and took a 1969 white Ford XW utility, a 1969 white Ford XW four-door sedan and a 1972 XY green Ford utility.

All three had just been sold by M.E. Auctions that day.

The crooks also stole all the keys for the vehicles they moved and the shed’s CCTV system.

Owner Anthony Perta said all three were originals worth about $100,000 and were “amazing” to drive.

He said it was a windy and rainy night on Sunday which would have helped mask the noise of the burglary.

“Just bring the cars back or put them somewhere for us to collect,” Mr Perta said to the thieves.

Police have released images of the cars to help with their recovery.

Anyone who sees the vehicles or has any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
