Brock Worcester, 18, pleads guilty to public nuisance over threat to Sunbury College

A high school in Melbourne’s northwest had to call in police and security guards after a teen made a threat against the campus. Now, he has pleaded guilty to public nuisance over the incident — and other, more worrying, separate charges.

Police and security guards were deployed to patrol Sunbury College on December 5 last year.

Worcester was arrested in the early hours of December 5 last year after the school’s principal Darryn Kruse sent a letter to parents alerting them of a “rumoured threat” against students and staff.

The college was declared safe later that morning but police remained to patrol the area “as a matter of reassurance”.

Worcester also pleaded guilty to making a bomb hoax statement, possessing a prohibited weapon without an exemption and two counts of possessing cartridge ammunition without a licence in relation to separate incidents.

The matter was set down for a diversion plan in court on May 28 and if Worcester completes its conditions, the charges will be dismissed and no criminal record will be recorded.

A date for the diversion plan is yet to be set.

Three other charges – threat to inflict serious injury, possessing cartridge ammunition without a licence and possessing a prohibited weapon without an exemption – were struck out.

Mr Kruse said at the time the health and safety of students and staff at the Racecourse Rd college was their top priority.

“We are taking an extremely cautious approach and extra security measures have been put in place … including police patrols,” he said.

“Security guards will also be on the school grounds.”

The nature of the threat remains unknown.
