Dogs rescued from blaze at Welcome Boarding Kennels & Cattery
Staff at a Yarrambat kennels facility had to think on their feet when a fire started in one of their buildings, leaving dozens of dogs trapped inside.

Quick-thinking employees at a Yarrambat kennels centre scrambled to save 30 dogs from a fire on Sunday.
An electrical fault in an airconditioning unit is believed to have sparked the blaze at Welcome Boarding Kennels & Cattery about 5.50pm.
The fire gutted one of the boarding kennels at the rear of the Yan Yean Rd property, which housed 30 dogs at the time.

Fire crews managed to control the fire, but not without a swift response from an employee and a manager who lived on site.
Welcome Boarding Kennels & Cattery manager Tanya, who did not wish to disclose her surname, said the manager was on site 15 minutes before the fire, and “everything was fine”.
“When the fire started he was in very quickly to evacuate the dogs and then an employee and her husband came and helped put most of the fire out before the fire brigade got here,” she said.
“Having fire equipment on site was a big help.”
Tanya said rescuing the trapped animals was the first priority.
“Once they were safe and had been checked a veterinarian the situation became a lot less stressful,” she said.
The fire left damage to a portion of the ceiling.
Paramedics treated “a number of people” for smoke inhalation.
No one was injured.
