A Diamond Creek man has been interviewed by police after he allegedly lit a fire during a fire danger period on Monday night.

Police were called to a property on Edmonds St, Diamond Creek at 6.40pm where they discovered a recently extinguished fire.

It is alleged the man lit the fire with the intention to burn off branches and cut trees from the residence.

Nillumbik Shire Council’s fire danger period began on November 25, 2024 and under the restrictions you cannot light a fire in open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.

The 29-year-old is expected to be charged with lighting a fire during a danger period.
