A kind-hearted Craigieburn teenager has been praised for helping to catch a woman’s dogs after they escaped from her property last week.
Year 7 student Ahmed Kassem was walking to Craigieburn Secondary School about 8.30am when he stopped to rescue Sharon Davies’ dogs — merican staffy Lilly and shar pei Elvis — which escaped when strong winds blew her front gate open.
“I’ve got no doubt in my mind that if he wasn’t there to rescue them, they could’ve run right onto Craigieburn Rd and been hit by a car,” she said.

Desperate to thank Ahmed properly, Ms Davies put a call-out on Facebook in an effort to try and find him.
Within hours, Ahmed’s father Talal came forward.
“I started tearing up with pride to see his name recognised for doing something good,” Mr Kassem told the Leader.
“We’re Muslim and with everything going on he cops a bit of grief at school but doing good shows that we’re not all bad.”
Ms Davies thanked Ahmed for his selfless gesture and gifted him two movie tickets.
