A Montmorency mum who organised a pyjama drive to help foster children this Christmas has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

Cath Morrison started the appeal last week and, within a day, the donations were piling in.

Not only were residents dropping pyjamas off on her doorstep, she even had strangers transferring money to buy new pyjamas for the children.

“I put it out through my work email and on my Facebook page, and shared it to the Nillumbik Buy, Swap, Sell page and the response has just left me in tears,” she said.

“My phone hasn’t stopped. People care.”

Ms Morrison comes from a family of nurturing women — her late mother provided care for children and her sister has been a foster carer with Anglicare Victoria for the past 15 years.

Ms Morrison said while she was not in a position to be a foster carer herself, this was a way for her to help. It’s the second pyjama appeal she’s organised for Anglicare Victoria.

Anglicare Foster Care

“A couple of years ago, I was speaking with a lady who is part of Anglicare and she was telling me about these children who come for emergency placement in the middle of the night — the ones that arrive with virtually nothing,” she said.

“My heart broke, so I put a call out back then, and I think we got 128 pairs.”

Anglicare home-based care team leader Kerry Jones said the pyjamas made a world of difference.

“For these kids, it means they can go to bed in something that’s theirs and not somebody else’s,” she said.

To donate, email canddmorrison@hotmail.com or drop off your donation to Holy Trinity Primary School, 94 Weidlich Rd, Eltham North.

Donations will be accepted before Sunday.
