Craigieburn crime: Helicopter used in police chase through Deer Park, Keilor East
A pair of teens with a penchant for Fords has allegedly taken police on a hair-raising chase through Melbourne’s north west. If you heard a helicopter overhead in Craigieburn, here’s what went down.

A pair of Ford-loving teens have been arrested after a police pursuit through Melbourne’s north west.
The midnight car chase kicked off on Craigieburn Rd in Craigieburn as police noticed an allegedly stolen Ford Falcon being driven erratically on Saturday, September 12.
Victoria Police Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said the driver of the car sped away from police who were unable to find it after a nearby patrol.
Sgt Newman said police in a helicopter spotted the car nearby, allegedly still driving erratically, and followed it as it drove on the Western Ring Rd, through Fawkner and Keilor East.
Police believe the teens allegedly dumped the Ford Falcon in Keilor East before tearing off in another allegedly stolen car — a Ford Ranger.
Sgt Newman said police following the Ranger believe the teens hit speeds of more than 150km/h.
She said police threw out “stop sticks” – designed to deflate tires in high speed pursuits – on Ballarat Rd in Deer Park, but it didn’t deter the teens who drove on.
Sgt Newman said the allegedly stolen Ford Ranger entered the Western Ring Rd at Cairnlea, on the wrong side of the road, with its headlights off.
Officers used their police cars to stop the driver in Keilor Park Drive, near Stadium Drive in Keilor Park, she said.
A 17-year-old boy and girl were arrested after they allegedly ran from the car away from pursuing police.
Sgt Newman said police allegedly seized GHB and ice from the stolen car.
She said the teens were taken to hospital for medical treatment, and are expected to face children’s court later today.
