There were dramatic scenes at Clifton Hill station on Tuesday night as police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife behaving erratically.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said a full search was conducted but the offender was not located and investigations remain ongoing.
Police spoke with a man and a woman who were located on the train with a child but it was quickly established these were not the people police were looking for.
