Darebin has recorded an average of almost five new cases of coronavirus a day over the past 10 days, and active cases have more than quadrupled.

The latest Victorian Department of Health and Human Services data shows Darebin has 42 active cases of COVID-19 and has had a total of 106 cases, up 46 from 10 days ago.

Mayor Susan Rennie said it was a shame a few people had ruined it for the majority of diligent people and hoped Darebin wouldn’t face new restrictions.

“There’s no doubt that many people are upset and frustrated that we could be facing additional restrictions, and I think that’s because most people have tried so hard to diligently follow the restrictions we have,” she said on the ABC.

“But I have equally been hearing people say that our health should be our highest priority.

“We’ve been very well served by following the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer.”

Darebin Council has announced an $11.3 million community and local business resilience and recovery package to assist the community.

For northern suburbs residents the closest testing centres are at Northern and Austin Hospital.

There are also testing centres at the other major Melbourne hospitals.
