Best vanilla slices Victoria: Whittlesea Bakehouse named Whittlesea’s best bakery

It has the best vanilla slices in Victoria, so it’s no surprise this bakery has been named the best in Whittlesea.

With the best vanilla slices in Victoria, it’s no surprise Whittlesea Bakehouse has taken out the title of best bakery in the City of Whittlesea.

The beloved business came out on top in Leader’s poll to find the best bakery in Whittlesea, following nominations from readers.

It comes after the bakery won the title of Victoria’s best vanilla slice at the Baking Association of Australia’s Victorian Bakery Show, held in Shepparton earlier this year.

Pastry chefs Michael Valenti and Adrian Caporetto work together to create the delicious treats, which have velvety smooth custard, thin soft icing and crispy pastry.

Owners Anna and Tony Innella have run the bakery for the past 21 years.

As well as its vanilla slices, the bakery is well-known for its pies, including the Whittlesea pie, featuring chunky slow cooked beef, cheese, onion and pepper.

It also serves all the regular bakery favourites, including sandwiches, doughnuts, shortbread biscuits, slices and lamingtons.

Manager Frances Caporetto said it was fantastic to be recognised by the public.

She said staff worked together well and put a lot of love into their food.

“We make a good team all of us together,” she said.

Mrs Caporetto said a lot of new customers had been coming in to try their vanilla slices after the bakery’s big win.

“It’s nice to see new people and new faces coming into town,” Mrs Caporetto said.

She said a big thank you to all the customers who voted for the bakery.

“It’s great to be supported; it’s really lovely and humbling to know people enjoy coming in and enjoy our food, it’s fantastic.”
