Quality over quantity is important to Epping hairdresser Connie Tropea.
And her stylish skills have clearly won over many fans, with Ms Tropea taking out the title of best hairdresser in Melbourne’s north.
The mum-of-three, who runs Hair and Beauty Room by Connie from her home, took out the award following nominations by Leader readers to find their favourite hair stylist.
She said the award was a huge honour.
“It’s really rewarding, and a huge achievement for me to be nominated,” she said.
Ms Tropea has been working from home for the past five years, and has recently renovated half of her garage into a salon.
“I started (hairdressing) when I was 16; I’m now 33, so I’ve been doing it for about 17 years,” she said.
“I left school in Year 10, and got offered an apprenticeship.
“And basically since then, I’ve been working in the hairdressing industry.
“I decided to open my own salon back in 2011 and then I’ve been working from home since 2015.
“I’ve got three children now; when I fell pregnant with my second I decided to work from home.”
Ms Tropea said she treated her clients like family and was “very open and honest”.
“I never promise anything I can’t commit and I try my best to achieve the best result,” she said.
“I am all about quality over quantity.
“For me I prefer to spend that one-on-one time with my client, and have that three hours just with them, rather than having too many people – I’ve always run my business like that.”
Ms Tropea specialises in blonde and balayage colouring.
She is also planning to expand into offering other beauty services, including teeth whitening.
