An Epping burger restaurant that’s all about keeping it simple has been crowned the home of Whittlesea’s best burger.

But it should come as no surprise as heraldsun.com.au readers had previously declared Laurie Dee’s creations as their favourite, with the restaurant named as having the best burgers in the whole of Melbourne.

The anonymous blogger at The Burger Adventure deemed Laurie Dee’s the best place in Melbourne to sink your teeth into a burger in both 2016 and 2015 too.

The famous Laurie Dee, formally known as Lawrence Di Tomasso, who founded the restaurant back in 2013, said the key to making the coveted burgers was keeping it simple.

He said the restaurant specialised in just a few items so it could really focus on producing the best and maintaining quality and consistency in each burger.

Laurie Dee’s offers six different types of burgers with the most popular coming in as a double version of the signature ‘Laurie Dee’ burger.

The creation is made up of two mince patties, melted cheddar, grilled onions, tomato, lettuce, diced pickles and Special D’Sauce.

Mr Dee said his team didn’t like to boast too much, but the main attribute of their popular delicacy was the meat.

“We really place a lot of emphasis on our beef patties,” he said.

“We make sure they are minced fresh everyday.”

The burgers are also set apart by the restaurant’s special sauce, which Mr Dee describes as “nicely balanced”.

Laurie Dee’s has been a happening place for years, and has at times struggled to keep up with the number of burger orders, but the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been easy for the business.

Mr Dee made the difficult decision to shut Laurie Dee’s, that is ahead of Melbourne’s fourth lockdown.

He said with so many Tier 1 exposure sites having been named nearby the eatery, it was the safe decision for staff and customers.

For when lockdown is over, Laurie Dee’s can be found and enjoyed at Epping Plaza from 11am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 11am to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
