Authorities are probing the cause of a grassfire in Melbourne’s north that came dangerously close to neighbouring homes.
More than 30 firefighters rushed to Dobies CT in Westmeadows after receiving multiple Triple 0 calls about a growing grass fire on Thursday about 2pm.
Fire crews arrived within minutes to find a large area of grass and scrub on fire which was threatening nearby houses, sheds and fences.
Firefighters battled the fire that spread to two nearby sheds and also engulfed meters of fencing in flames.
The fire was under control within 50 minutes.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said an air attack was required to tame the growing flames.
The spokesman said all occupants from all of the premises were safely evacuated.
“The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV specialists,” he said.
“Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene to support firefighting activities”.
