A person is in hospital after a single-truck crash on Banksia St in Heidelberg

A truck driver has been rushed to hospital after a single-vehicle smash in Melbourne’s northeast, with two lanes on busy roads forced to close.

A truck driver has been rushed to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Melbourne’s northeast.

Emergency services responded to reports of a truck crashing into a pole on Banksia St in Heidelberg about 10am on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes and found the truck had smashed into a pole, damaging it severely.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the truck driver was taken to the Austin Hospital.

One left lane has been closed westbound on Banksia St, Eaglemont and northbound lane closures are also in place on Lower Heidelberg Rd.

Motorists are urged to avoid the intersection and consider using Bulleen Rd or Eastern Freeway instead and allow extra time.
