29-year-old Flemington charged over alleged attempted bank robbery

Police have arrested a man who allegedly used a knife to try to rob a bank in North Melbourne.

A man who allegedly attempted two armed robberies, including one at a bank, has been taken under custody after a two-day hunt.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad arrested a 29-year-old Flemington man at his Holland Court home on Friday morning.

It is alleged the 29-year-old entered a bank armed with a knife on Errol St and demanded cash on Wednesday, June 21.

A Victoria Police spokesman said he also allegedly looted a supermarket on Queensbury Street on the same day.

“Nothing was stolen from the bank, however a small quantity of cash was taken from the supermarket,” the police spokesman said.

No one was physically injured during the incidents.

The Holland Court resident is charged with attempted armed robbery, common law assault, armed robbery, false imprisonment, common law assault, theft and fail to appear on bail.

The man will appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
