There is plenty to see and do across Melbourne’s north western suburbs this Christmas with the calandeer full of festive events.
To help you plan your month, Leader has put together a list of the best Christmas events from carols and Christmas lights to the ideal markets to load up on gifts.
Moonee Ponds
Carols (December 10, 7pm to 9pm)
Queens Park will host the sound of Christmas when carols return to Moonee Valley on December 10.
There will be appearances from Moonee Valley Brass, Moonee Valley Community Choir, Team Dream, The Holly Belles, Santa and Mrs Claus.
Children’s activities start from 5pm while the carols begin at 7pm.
Shopping
Moonee Ponds Central promises to be a hive of Christmas activity.
The main highlight is Santa’s cottage where families can organise their own photo with Santa himself or a festive pic of their furry family members.
There will also be a live music set for those shoppers doing their last minute buys on Christmas Eve with Moonee Tunes returning from 8pm.
Maribyrnong
Tech-savvy (across December)
For those who are more IT-inclined, the area will be a hub of augmented reality with a Christmas twist.
Through the MARIality app, families can track Santa’s sleigh through Nicholson Mall, go on a gingerbread treasure hunt through Seddon or explore the West Footscray art trail.
Christmas Villages
Santa will be rolling through Yarraville’s Christmas Village from December 10 to 17, between 3pm and 4pm.
The village will also host a shopping night with a twist on December 23. Themed after the grinch and Christmas elf, there will be surprises for shoppers from 5pm to 6pm.
Seddon will also be joining in the Christmas spirit with activities running on all Fridays from December 9 to December 23.
Hume
Carols (December 3, 7pm to 9.30pm)
The sound of Christmas is coming to Hume as carols return with celebrity host Hugh Sheridan taking the stage.
The actor will be joined by PAW Patrol, Garth Ploog, Michaela Jayde, Kathy Hinch, Chantelle Defina and Jack Lyall with fireworks to end the night
The venue has changed from Craigieburn’s Anzac Park to Central Shopping Centre carpark in Craigieburn.
Pre-event activities and entertainment will begin from 5pm and run until 8pm.
Markets
Bohemian Bulla Market (December 18, 9am-3pm)
Santa will be making a guest appearance in Bulla as he stops by the Bohemian Market on December 18.
Alongside Santa, there will be arts and crafts as well as food vans for their last market of the year which is free entry.
