Two-month investigation leads to charges for more than 30 alleged burglaries in Melbourne’s north

Police have cracked a major crime ring in Melbourne’s north who have been accused of dozens of burglaries across Hume, Whittlesea, Brimbank and Manningham.

Police have cracked a major crime ring in Melbourne’s north who have been accused of dozens of burglaries across Hume, Whittlesea, Brimbank and Manningham.

Six men have been charged following a two-month investigation into more than 30 alleged commercial cigarette burglaries and residential break ins by Hume crime investigation unit detectives.

The investigation – Operation Stooked – culminated in police raids at houses Roxburgh Park, Meadow Heights and Oak Park last week.

Five men were arrested, with four stolen cars and two firearms seized in the March 31 raids.

A Roxburgh Park man, 18, was charged with more than 70 offences including 12 counts of commercial burglaries and more than 30 residential burglaries and aggravated burglaries.

A Meadow Heights man, 19, was charged with more than 60 offences including more than 30 residential and commercial burglaries, and aggravated home invasion.

The pair were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 8.

An Oak Park man, 18, was also charged with more than 60 offences including more than 30 residential and commercial burglaries, and aggravated home invasion.

A Roxburgh Park man, 20, was charged with two counts of firearms possession, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of commercial burglaries and three counts of theft of caravans.

A Meadow Heights man, 19, was charged with two counts of commercial burglaries and theft of a motor vehicle.

All three were bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 8.

Leading Senior Constable Rohan Imms said police later arrested a 17-year-old boy on April 2 and have charged him with 40 counts of residential burglaries.

He will appear at a children’s court at a later date.
