An ugly wedding brawl that shut down Sydney Rd for more than an hour on Saturday night was sparked by 20 foul-mouthed revellers booted from a nearby Airbnb by police.
The gang of unruly youths interrupted celebrations at the Almina function centre about midnight as they disembarked from a tram outside the venue, police said.
Brunswick Senior Sergeant Michael Moloney said guests then took offence to loud, foul language from the group, sparking a violent clash which was only broken up after police were forced to use capsicum spray.
“Youths from the (Airbnb) party were vocal and were swearing and comments were passed for them to stop and they bit back,” he said.
“It became a verbal argument that became physical.”
It’s believed up to eight police vehicles and two ambulances were called to the scene.
There were no serious injuries, but the skirmish forced the closure of Sydney Rd between Albion and Hope streets for more than an hour.

Earlier in the night, police were called to 756 Sydney Rd after management in an apartment building had asked partygoers to leave a room they had rented on Airbnb.
The guests left about 11.40pm and Sen-Sgt Moloney said the group split into two, with half boarding a tram south along Sydney Rd before arriving at Almina.
Two females were arrested after the brawl, but no charges have been laid.
Moreland Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
