Top wine and spirit gong for Macedon Ranges’ Mountain Distilling

Less than a year after it opened, a Macedon Ranges craft distillery is already taking the world by storm, winning a top international prize in London. But they’re not stopping there.

A Macedon Ranges craft distillery has won a top international gong.

Mountain Distilling took out a prestigious gold medal from 3000 entrants at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

The product, Mountain Gin, received 95 points from a panel of international industry experts.

More than 400 experts from across the globe judge the awards across seven months of the year.

It was the first international title for Mountain Distilling co-founders George Cremasco and Michael Harris, who launched the distillery 11 months ago.

“Our gin is distilled with pine and mountain pepperberry botanicals that are foraged locally, so the flavours are truly unique and representative of the area,” Mr Cremasco said.

Mr Harris told the Macedon Ranges Leader the competition, which has been running for 50 years, was the third the pair had entered but the first internationally.

“The win was unbelievable,” he said.

“It was a bit of a shock to the system because of the calibre of the competition we were up against.

“To be recognised on the world platform as a gold medalist, especially at the IWSC, is a humbling experience only a year since coming to market.”

Mr Harris said the next step for the company was the release of an American Oak barrel aged gin, to be released sometime in spring.

“We’ve got lots of innovative projects in the pipeline,” he said.
