Concept art designs for the Macedon Ranges’ new $60 million aged care complex have been released.
Aged care provider Benetas will build 120 beds across three accommodation levels on the grounds of the former Gisborne hospital by 2023.
The proposal was made possible after Macedon Ranges Health merged with the provider in July 2018 after the move was first mooted the previous November.
Benetas chief executive Sandra Hills said the proposed development would provide an “apartment style” model to the Macedon Ranges.
“Importantly, they provide a more homelike environment where residents share their kitchen, dining and lounge areas for people’s use with their friends and family,” she said.
Ms Hills said each apartment would have its own dedicated care team.
Existing facilities at aged care centre Gisborne Oaks in Neal St would also have dining and lounge rooms refurbished, kitchenette upgrades and a private dining room for residents and their families.
The refurbishment is expected to begin by the end of the year and finish in early 2019.
The Macedon Ranges Health Centre will also be renovated to maximise office space and create more consulting rooms.
Planning for a modern retirement village has also started, with building expected to begin by 2028 subject to planning approvals.
Benetas infrastructure and housing manager Bruce Webb said population growth led to a growing demand for more facilities.

“Population in the region is expected to grow by 40 per cent in 15 years, and that will close to double for those aged over 80 years,” he said.
“Developing a plan today that meets peoples’ ageing needs tomorrow is essential for any community.”
Plans can be viewed at pop-up shops at Macedon Ranges Health at 5 Neal St from 10am to 2pm, August 29-30, and at the Gisborne market on September 1.
