Burger themed finger food and locally flavoured cocktails are part of an overhaul to a popular Essendon venue.
The Essendon Hotel, formerly known as Ginger Annie, will reopen its doors on October 31 following a four-month renovation and rebranding.
Prior to that the Mount Alexander Rd venue had long been known as the O’Sullivan’s Irish pub.
The space has adopted a modern contemporary style, with cool features including a neon feature wall, gold finishes, and a stand out 26m-long terrazzo bar top.
Owner Sam Lagozzino said the refitted venue was full of lots of hidden gems.
“Absolutely everything has changed except the colours of the bricks,” he said.
He said he chose to set up the venue in Essendon with his fiance Joanne Scarcella because it stood out as a suburb.
“We’d researched all of Melbourne for our next hospitality project and Essendon was clearly in need of a modern contemporary, fun style, bar restaurant,” Mr Lagozzino said.
The venue will launch with a tasty seasonal menu including a fresh ocean trout dish, macaroni and cheese croquettes and innovative cheeseburger spring rolls.
There will also be a specially named vodka based cocktail called The Essendon Hold Up.
Mr Lagozzino said he had a passion to deliver the best customer service in a “cool, modern way”.
