VTCA Team of the Week: Round 5 and 6

There were a number of career best performances across the VTCA at the weekend to earn players a place in our Team of the Week. Here’s who made it.

Windies to target Labuschagne with the short ball

With two days of action, there was plenty of opportunity to impress in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association at the weekend.

Openers across the competition dominated with the ball, while some even showed they’re quite capable with the ball.

Here’s our VTCA Team of the Week for Round 5 and 6.

Satheesh Fernandu, East Coburg

Was in brilliant form as East Coburg stormed to a big win over Melton Centrals on Saturday but did not play the following day. The opener struck 131 to reach his first century in club colours.

Salman Afridi, Moonee Valley

Afridi is enjoying some sort of start to his career in Division 4 with Moonee Valley. At the weekend, he struck 54 against Bellbridge before backing it up with an unbeaten 121 against St Andrews on Sunday afternoon. In his first game for the club a week earlier, Afridi hit 88 and now has 263 runs through three innings.

Jack Potticary, West Coburg

It was a weekend of mixed emotions for the West Coburg keeper. He started in phenomenal fashion with a brilliantly crafted 118 runs from 111 balls against Sydenham-Hillside but was quickly brought back to earth when he was out for six against PEGS.

Patrick Wood, Williamstown CYMS

Scored his first century in Williamstown CYMS colours with a 116-run performance against Kingsville on Sunday. It bettered his previous best innings of 86 in the Division 2 Second XI grand final series last season.

Nilan Fernando, Grand United

Guided his side at a crucial time in the Division 3 clash against Werribee Centrals going onto score 97 not out from 84 balls. His side eventually ran out winners by 111 runs. He’s probably a little disappointed to have not reach triple figures.

Patrick Willach, Doutta Stars

It was a busy weekend with bat and ball for the West Coburg star as his side scored two crucial wins. Willach scored a match winning effort against St Francis de Sales on Sunday. His performance with the ball was equally as impressive as he finished with figures of 2-18 and 2-39 in each game respectively.

Anthony Alleyne, Sydenham-Hillside

The star import is putting together an impressive season for the Division 1 newcomers. His weekend included an unbeaten 59 and 4-18 against West Coburg before backing it up with 2-18 against Sunshine.

Hamza Ali, Sunshine United

The Sunshine United star showed off his all-round ability on the weekend with one dominant batting display followed by an impressive bowling performance on Sunday. Ali finished with 72 not out against Yarraville Club before turning spearhead with the ball against St Albans taking 5-16.

Jonty Warren took career best figures.

Jonty Warren, Glenroy

Talk about making the most of your opportunities. It turned out to be a brilliant weekend for the Glenroy spearhead as he took 3-24 against Pascoe Vale Hadfield before backing it up with 6-18 against Werribee Centrals.

Christopher-Lee Harvey, Jacana

Harvey could almost do no wrong in his side’s victory over Sanctuary Lakes as he finished with stunning figures of 6-16 off eight overs including three maidens. He now has 13 wickets for the season at an average of just 7.3.

Matthew Williams, Sunshine YCW

Had the best figures of any player across the weekend after finishing with 6-10 from five overs against Barkly Street Uniting in their Division 5 clash.
