Confidence is sky-high at Tullamarine after a five-match winning streak propelled the club to within reach of a home final in VTCA Division 1 West.

The Demons are unbeaten since Round 4, a run which has lifted them six points clear in second with four matches remaining.

Tullamarine’s bowlers have been crucial to the club’s success, conceding an average of only 93 runs in victories over Deer Park, Altona North, Greenvale Kangaroos and Aberfeldie.

Coach Buddhika Mendis said the Demons would be foolish to take any of their remaining games for granted, with Druids, Aberfeldie, Airport West St Christophers and Altona North also chasing a top-two spot.

“Obviously any team would like to have a home final, that’s for sure,” Mendis said.

“But if we continue the run we have been having, I think we have a very good chance.”

David Zahorodni (15 wickets) and Chris Kenney (14) have been key contributors and Mendis lauded the efforts of the experienced duo.

“When the big games come, big players show up, which is great,” he said.

“These guys that have been playing in this comp for ages. That becomes really handy.

“These guys take the responsibility and they show up every week.

“With the new guys we have and those boys, we have been jelling and the new boys have been performing as well.”

Shane Siebel contributed 3-12 in Tullamarine’s latest victory, helping his side rout Deer Park for 93 on Saturday.

Openers Modera Perera (38) and Nick Zajac (27) ensured the Demons maintained their winning form, setting the platform for a six-wicket triumph.

Tullamarine’s Round 11 clash with Laverton starts this weekend.

The Demons then face finals contenders Airport West St Christophers and Altona North before taking on a dangerous Greenvale Kangaroos side in the last round of the regular season.

“Every team is capable of beating anybody on their day,” Mendis said.

“It is very exciting for the comp as well, because you don’t get any easy games.”

The Roos have lifted themselves clear of the bottom of the ladder with consecutive upsets over the Airport West St Christophers and Aberfeldie.

Airport West St Christophers (120) defeated Laverton (110), Altona North (6-149) downed Druids (9-147) and Greenvale (103) shocked Aberfeldie (89) in other Round 10 results.
