St Francis de Sales will move into second spot on the VTCA Division 1 North ladder if its appeal of a pre-Christmas wash out against Westmeadows proves successful this week.

The appeal will be heard on Wednesday after the Saints’ initial request for the drawn result to be reconsidered was knocked back.

While the three other Division 1 North fixtures went ahead in Round 8, a wet wicket at Willowbrook Reserve resulted in no play between St Francis de Sales and Westmeadows.

“The game before Christmas where we were rained off, we basically got caught out on the Thursday night, our square got wet and we didn’t cover it,” Warriors coach Tarek Moughanie said.

“St Francis protested it, as they were well within their rights to do.

“The VTCA threw it out and they have now appealed it.

“We could lose three points and they would gain three points, which would put us equal on points.

“(But) it may stay the way it is.”

If the appeals board rules in St Francis de Sales’ favour and awards the club victory, it would move to 33 points — equal with Westmeadows.

The Saints would also climb above the Warriors into second as a result of their superior percentage.

Both clubs started 2019 on a winning note on Saturday, with St Francis de Sales (5-194) accounting for PEGS (152) and Westmeadows (8-123) routing West Coburg (69).

The Redbacks held on to top spot despite the 54-run loss, three points ahead of the Warriors after nine rounds.
