Knight and Bacchus Marsh keeper-batsman Milinda Sepala (31) combined for a 96-run opening stand, setting a solid foundation after the GDCA was sent in.
GDCA skipper Jarryd Vernon, Knight’s Gisborne captain, held the middle order together with 42 from 56 balls, before late cameos from Ryan Billinghurst (21), Taylor Stevenson (16) and Kyle Whitehurst (20) set Ballarat more than five runs an over for victory.
Jayden Hayes took 4-39 for the BCA.
A 63-run partnership to open the innings had Ballarat on track, but Vernon (2-44) and Gisborne seamer Joel Garbutt (3-33) landed two quick blows to turn the fixture’s momentum.
Vernon collected the prized scalp of his former Dragons teammate Danza Hyatt for 11 and the match appeared the GDCA’s for the taking when the BCA slumped to 7-144.
No.9 batsman Liam Rigby engineered a tense finish, hammering 54 from 39 balls before he was the last man out in the final over.
The BCA’s rally ended after 49.4 overs when it was dismissed for 239.
Romsey all-rounder Stevenson (2-30) was the other multiple wicket-taker.
The GDCA plays its next Kenmac Shield game on January 13 against the Bendigo District Cricket Association.
Meanwhile, the GDCA celebrated representative success when the under-17 Kirton Shield side prevailed in a thrilling final on Sunday.
The GDCA defended 8-152, skittling Ballarat for 144 after it had been cruising at 2-92.
Lachlan Treweek (56 and 3-18), Bryson Gilbert (3-30) and Jordon McDonald (48) were the matchwinners for the GDCA.
