The nephew of slain Melbourne crime boss Nabil Maghnie stormed a Craigieburn home and assaulted a mother in front of her children, a court has heard.

Anthony Younan, 32, was granted bail in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after he was charged with offences including aggravated burglary, intentionally causing injury and assault.

Younan — who appeared via videolink from Marngoneet Correctional Centre — allegedly stormed the woman’s Craigieburn home just before 2pm on June 6 this year.

The trained boxer allegedly entered the Dickens St house after brushing past the woman’s husband who was outside his property at the time.

The court was told the father — who initially thought Younan was a friend of his son — followed Younan into the house.

Younan told the father “I want to talk” then entered kitchen.

Younan allegedly grabbed the mum by the throat and punched her in front of her two young sons.

Younan — who did not know the couple — then scuffled with the father and fled on foot.

The court was told Younan allegedly returned to the home just after 8pm the next night, rang the doorbell then fled in a dark vehicle.

Police identified Younan from the CCTV and he was arrested the next day.

He found himself locked up again after he allegedly assaulted two men during an alleged bizarre drug-fuelled escapade in the city early on September 5 this year.

The court was told Younan allegedly assaulted a man he followed from Little Lonsdale St to Spencer St.

Younan chased his alleged victim to the Spencer St Police Complex where the man attempted to seek help but the station was locked.

The alleged victim waved down a passing motorist who pulled over and confronted Younan.

Younan then allegedly assaulted the motorist before the man got back in his car and drove off.

Younan went back after the first man and allegedly chased him around a row of parked cop cars until police arrived and he was arrested.

The court heard Younan –—who lived on Little Lonsdale St at the time — had a “substance abuse issue” with meth.

Police opposed bail because they believed Younan was an unacceptable risk of committing further offences while on bail.

Police also fear Younan could endanger the safety and welfare of the community if released.

The prosecutor highlighted Younan’s three years of boxing training as a significant factor.

In response, Younan’s defence team tendered references from family members including his mother Amira Maghnie.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Felicity Broughton granted Younan bail with strict conditions including he must stay at his family’s Taylors Lakes home, not approach witnesses and he must enter a residential rehab program.

Younan’s uncle Nabil Maghnie was a former feared Melbourne underworld figure until he was gunned down in Epping on January 9 this year.
