Rubbish bin collection in Moonee Valley is back on track after a surge in sick days left the collection company behind schedule over the holiday period.
Overflowing bins were left on the kerb for up to a week, with rubbish scattered along residential streets.
Moonee Valley Council Mayor Narelle Sharpe said the council’s contractor Cleanaway told the council “unplanned sick leave” of drivers over the holiday period, combined with the public holidays, caused the delays.

“All bin collections are now up to date,” Cr Sharpe said.
Bin collection was only one day behind over the Christmas period but had a flow on effect that pushed back the collection on all streets.
As of Thursday, bin collections were back on track.
The delay comes just weeks after the council finally collected residents’ hard rubbish, which was two weeks’ behind schedule because there was too much for the trucks to handle.
Despite the delay, some residents have been quick to thank the council for getting the issue sorted.
Suzanne MacNish said she was grateful she lived in a city that collected her rubbish from outside her house.
“As it takes people to perform these duties I am sure it is a difficult task to schedule and keep on top of so thanks to everyone who put in the extra effort, even if the outcome was not ideal for everyone,” she said in a Facebook post.
