Romsey comedian Tom Gleeson goes for gold
Forget the Big Banana, Big Prawn or Big Pineapple. Gold Logie hopeful Tom Gleeson is promising something far more spectacular for his sleepy Victorian home town should he take home TV’s coveted award on Sunday night.

Romsey comedian Tom Gleeson has ramped up his Gold Logie bid with a slew of local campaign promises.
The Hard Quiz funnyman is in the running for the TV Week Gold Logie, as well as Most Popular Personality and Most Popular Entertainment Program.
“To the residents of Romsey, I promise I’ll widen the road into Romsey properly,” he said.
“Rather than spending two years on a 300m turning lane.”
Offering more local campaign promises, Gleeson said he’d build a third high school in the Macedon Ranges if he won the gong.
“I’ll build a high school and I’ll name it after the Gold Logie — where dreams are made,” he said.
“Better yet I’ll name it after (Grant) Denyer. The Grant Denyer Memorial High School.”
The State Government ruled out setting up a high school in the Macedon Ranges town earlier this week, citing low numbers.
Gleeson said Macedon Ranges voters owed him after he helped stop an exploratory mining licence application around Romsey and Lancefield last year.
“They owe me big time. I’m surprised I haven’t been invited to more dinners,” he said.
“If you don’t vote for me I’m going to ring up that company and get them to commence digging.
“They’re doing to dig up some gold to make me my own trophy if I don’t win.”
Other ideas included a giant gold Logie out the front of the Romsey IGA, or the bottle shop.
Sportsbet listed Gleeson as the Gold Logie favourite ($1.65) with Network Ten’s Amanda Keller ($4) and Seven’s Sam Mac ($6.50) trailing behind.

And as for his reason behind the politician-style campaign.
“I’m just reminding everyone not to take themselves too seriously,” he said.
“It’s about the voters. I’m just trying to do a campaign that people will enjoy. A few of the other nominees are lashing out at me. I worry about their welfare.”
Gleeson said “lazy” ABC audiences needed an incentive to vote, so he axed his popular quiz show.
