A young Pascoe Vale man is being remembered as a “caring” soul after he died following a motorbike accident.

One of the first things that Tina and Angelo Kallianis discovered after their son George Kallianis’ death on April 24 was everyone had a story to tell about the popular 19-year-old.

They — along with daughter Zoe — have been told by many people about how his warmth and empathy connected with people from all walks of life, from those with disability to his closest friends.

They heard stories about how George would go for a drive at night and then swing by to pick up his friends from the other side of town to save them an Uber fare or how, at Greek Easter, he spent more than half an hour playing board games with his younger cousins.

There was a story about how George ensured the homeless cat at his worksite was fed everyday while his two cats were often spoiled at home.

They said more than 1000 people — including the Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta — attended a moving service at The Presentation of Our Lord in Coburg to pay their respects to George.

“The one comment that kept coming out was George was my best friend, he had a lot of friends who he went above and beyond to make sure his mates were safe,” Ms Kallianis said.

“He was a very caring individual, he had a lot of empathy and connected a lot … he could have conversations with a three-year-old and then turn around and have a conversation with a 90-year-old and talk about anything and everything.”

George was studying as a second-year electrical apprentice and had a passion for cars and natural talent on a motorbike. Anyone that spent time in his company knew about his dream car, a Ford G6e Turbo.

His friends have been holding a regular vigil at the accident site on Pascoe Vale Rd t while a fundraiser for the Kallianas family has raised more than $27,000 in less than a week.

The family have reached out to some of the first responders who were with George when he died to thank them for looking after him in his final moments.

“We were very grateful for total strangers running to him and being so compassionate and empathetic towards someone they don’t even know,” Ms Kallianis said.

“Knowing that they were with him, holding him and telling he was loved ... it’s just precious and heartwarming for us.”
