The son of murdered crime boss Macchour Chaouk allegedly rammed a police car before leading officers on a dangerous drive in Melbourne’s northwest, a court has heard.

Omar Chaouk, 29, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over the shocking alleged incident which saw him allegedly ram the vehicle in Kealba before taking off toward Derrimut in the early hours of August 9.

Police allege the learner driver intentionally rammed the vehicle before leading police on a pursuit and running a red light on Sunshine’s Sunshine Ave.

Chaouk, of Brooklyn, allegedly reached speeds of up to 200km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Western Ring Rd and drove on the wrong side of the road in Sunshine West, the court heard.

Witnesses including police involved in the alleged incident gave evidence to the court.

“I was shaken up,” a witness said.

Magistrate Donna Bakos heard Chaouk was found with a stash of ice when he came to a stop at Derrimut.

Chaouk was 19 when his father was shot dead in his Brooklyn backyard in 2010 following a long string of drug and assault charges dating back to 1975.

Chaouk — the youngest of four children — made headlines in 2015 when he shot himself in the groin while attempting to reach for cigarettes inside his pocket.

His charges include drive dangerously while being pursued by police, intentionally cause damage, fail to stop at the scene of an accident, possess ice and fail to display L plates.

Chaouk, who appeared via video link, was ordered to stand trial.

He will face court again on April 28.
