The one-eyed Persian breed sits on his corner across the road from Oak Park Primary School every morning and afternoon and greets children and parents.
Andy doesn’t appear during school holidays, taking his time off to lie in a nearby garden.
When visited by the Leader, dozens of families strolled past the cat and said farewell for the afternoon.
A post on the Oak Park Community Facebook page drew praise for the “legend” who has been “looking out for the school kids of Oak Park Primary School for a long, long time”.
Rachele Saflekas said she was washing her car 15 years ago when Andy first came into her life.
“He just jumped up in the car and I actually tried to shoo him away but he wouldn’t leave,” she said.
“He’s grown up with my kids and has a few (families) now.”
Ms Saflekas said Andy lost his left eye in a fight three years ago and the best guess of his age hovers between 17 and 18.
“All the neighbours love and feed him,” she said.
“When we go on holidays we know he’s going to be fine, everyone looks after him.”
