Two men have turned a former Brunswick East wool mill into a wedding venue in their bid to make the industry more affordable.
Thornbury’s Will Campbell had been a wedding photographer and Paul Carr of Collingwood had been in technology, developing a streamlined system for couples to tie the knot.
“I was basically becoming a pseudo planner because people were getting quite stressed about planning their weddings,” Mr Campbell said.
“It was a very clunky journey and very expensive and the first thing that gets removed is the wedding planner.”
So the bachelor pair began leasing The Old Wool Mill on Donald St, transformed it from a cluttered warehouse to a function venue.
Through their company Nudo, they are offering all-inclusive wedding packages starting at $26,000.
That package includes food and drinks, entertainment, photography, flowers and the venue for up to 80 guests.
“We were trying to solve the problem because weddings cost more than ever … the whole system is broken,” Mr Carr said.

After their first wedding, happy clients gave them a bottle of champagne and the venue has sold out Saturdays for its upcoming wedding season.
“It was incredibly, that first wedding we were rushing around like crazy people,” Mr Campbell said.
“It’s been nine months of staying up at night drinking beers and painting beams (in the venue) and it was great to enjoy that first big day.”
