A new club celebrating the success of women in business has launched in Moonee Valley.

Business Goddesses of Moonee Valley was started in July by small business owners Claire Hewitt and Joyce Clarke Henry after the pair found a lot of business women were not getting the support they needed.

Ms Hewitt is the founder of Well Healthcare Communications, while Ms Henry owns hairdressers Clarke and Co.

The duo held their first networking event out of Joyce Clarke Henry’s shop Clarke and Co salon.

“I went to the hairdressers and it was my first appointment with Joyce, and I told her I was thinking of starting my own business and I didn’t know what to do,” Ms Hewitt said.

“That’s when Joyce told me there were so many people like me that came into her shop.

“I thought maybe I should start a group locally so I literally did it in the chair at that time.”

The club already has 80 ambitious women who already own a business or are thinking of taking the plunge.

So far, it has hosted two successful networking events with another two planned for next month and over Christmas.

Ms Hewitt said it was important for women in business to be supported.

“It’s crucial, the more support you get the more success you get. It can be the difference between someone having the confidence to say I can do that,” she said.

“We wanted to fill that gap and be a support network and a place women can safely share ideas and concepts but also ask the crazy questions.”

The Keilor East business woman, who only opened her medical marketing agency three months ago, said the club had already helped her so much with her new business.

“I was sitting at home thinking I had no networks,” she said.

“Thanks to the group I was able to immediately connect with other women with established businesses who were very passionate about helping other women.”

The group is open to join to any woman in Moonee Valley who is interested in business.
