An EPA Victoria spokesperson said the truck was carrying soil from a Westgate Tunnel Project depot at Yarraville to Bulla, northwest of Melbourne.

The truck spilt soil along several kilometres of Bulla Rd, with the Department of Transport taking 13 hours to clean the mess.

EPA officers fined the trucking company for unlawfully depositing waste exceeding the limit of 1000 litres, an offence under the Environment Protection Act 2017.

Under the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Infringements Act 2006, the operator has the right to have the infringement notice reviewed or be considered by a court.
