Man who allegedly slashed more than 40 tyres charged

A man has been charged after more than 40 tyres were slashed across Melbourne’s northwest.

A man has been charged after dozens of vehicles had their tyres slashed in Essendon, Moonee Ponds and Brunswick West in September.

A 32-year-old Brunswick West man was arrested in Brunswick West on Tuesday and charged with 45 counts of criminal damage.

At least 40 vehicles had their tyres slashed when the man went on an alleged slashing spree on September 29.

One of the victims of the attack, Phillip Johnston had three tyres on two vehicles slashed.

“It’s just a headache and the last thing any one of us in the area should have to deal with,” he said.

At the time of the alleged offending, police said the financial impact on the community would be “huge”.

“It is extremely disappointing,” First Constable Courtney Rudd of the Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit said.

The man was on bail at the time of the alleged offending.

He will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
