Macedon Ranges residents won’t be hit with a higher rate rise, despite a fall in council income due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The council has ruled out asking the State Government for an exemption to the two per cent rate cap for the next financial year.

Councils can apply to the commission for a higher cap if they can show a long-term funding need that is supported by long-term financial planning.

Director Corporate Services John Hausler said while a loss in revenue had been projected for the next year due to the closure of sporting and aquatic centres, it had yet to pin down a dollar amount.

“There will also be lower costs associated with running the facilities while they are closed, which will partially offset the lower revenue,” he said.

He said it was not known if capital works or council services would be postponed or cancelled due to the shortfall.
